How do I change my direct debit details?

Please contact our Mortgage Service Centre (see Contact us below) who will arrange for a new direct debit mandate to be sent to you.

Can I change the date of my mortgage repayment?

Yes, but please note this will usually result in an increase to your next monthly repayment. Please contact our Mortgage Service Centre for full details (see Contact us below).

Can I increase my overdraft limit for a temporary period?

This may be possible; each person is assessed by their individual circumstance. Call Telephone Banking, visit your local branch or go online if you would like further details (see Contact us below).

I am not in arrears with my mortgage but I am finding it more and more of a struggle each month to cover my mortgage repayment. What should I do?

Start by reviewing your finances using a budget planner or income and expenditure statement to see if you are able to reduce your non-essential expenditure to allow your monthly mortgage repayments to become more affordable. If you still feel that you will struggle, contact your local branch to arrange an appointment to discuss this further (see Contact us below).

I have missed some of my mortgage repayments. How can I repay the arrears?

Depending on your individual circumstances, it may be possible to increase the amount of your monthly mortgage repayment to repay the arrears over a number of months. Please contact our Mortgage Collections department to discuss this further (see Contact us below).

Can I add the arrears to the end of the loan?

Unfortunately this is not possible. However, depending on your individual circumstances and where you have demonstrated that you can now make your full repayments on time for a given number of months, there is a service that could then become available which will allow you to have the amount of your mortgage arrears added to the amount outstanding on the mortgage. This process is called Capitalisation and it will allow you to repay your mortgage within the original term and is a method of resolving arrears. HSBC does not charge for this service. Please contact our Mortgage Collections department to discuss this further (see Contact us below).

I previously made additional payments to my mortgage to save interest. Can these additional payments now be used to repay my arrears?

It may be possible to allow you to use additional payments you have made in the past 6 years to repay or reduce your arrears. Please contact our Mortgage Collections department to discuss this further (see Contact us below).

Can I reduce my monthly repayments?

In cases of financial hardship it may be possible to reduce your payments for a short period but it will be necessary to have a plan put in place to repay the resultant arrears. Please call into your local branch or call the Telephone Banking team to discuss.(see Contact us below).

My mortgage interest rate is fixed. Can I choose a different rate?

Changing from a fixed rate mortgage will incur an early repayment charge details of which are contained within the mortgage offer document you received when arranging the mortgage. Alternatively, you can contact our Mortgage Service Centre for full details (see Contact us below).

I have a joint mortgage with my wife/husband/partner but we are no longer together. Am I able to pay just my half of the monthly repayment?

Whilst this is possible you will still remain liable, along with your wife/husband/partner, for any amount that remains unpaid. Please call into your local branch or call the Telephone Banking team to discuss. (see Contact us below).
