Supporting UK Businesses

The success of UK business is as important to HSBC as it is to the UK economy. Successful businesses are based on strong relationships – with customers, suppliers, and staff. We understand this and it informs our whole approach.

We are fully committed to supporting UK businesses with expertise, products and services in the following ways:

Our experienced, locally based relationship managers devote time to understanding their customers' businesses, banking requirements and ambitions and work together with customers to find the right solutions.

Where relevant, they will also be happy to bring in the expert help of our specialists who are able to provide in-depth knowledge of particular products and services and a wide range of other banking and financial issues.

We are a global bank with over 150 years experience of working with all kinds of businesses and we are able to put this experience to work not only for companies wanting to enter or develop new markets, but also here, locally, in the UK.

Help and information

Our locally based commercial managers and business specialists will make themselves available to talk about how we can help your business. They are part of a UK wide team of 3,000.

More help and information is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week**, via our comprehensive online Knowledge Centre and our online community, the Business Network, and we also run a regular programme of local events.

Levels of service

We regularly ask our customers' opinions of our service, measure service levels through regular surveys and respond by making and sharing improvements. We also offer business reviews to all our customers annually.

We aim to keep our relationship managers in post for a minimum of three years and they spend at least three days a week going out to meet customers and the local business community.

All are supported by experienced teams and the services provided by our market leading business Internet banking facilities and telephone banking teams.

Lending policy

HSBC considers all borrowing requests on a case-by-case basis and where we decline requests, we provide a detailed explanation.

We will always recommend the best ways to structure borrowing in the interests of the customers' businesses and this applies in everything from cashflow management to trade finance solutions and borrowing for working capital, investment or growth.

Costs and pricing

We are committed to a fair pricing policy and price our loans and overdrafts on an individual basis, looking at credit risk, current cost of funds and the overall market environment.

We pass on base rate changes in full to those customers with base rate linked term and overdraft lending products and clearly communicate the price of lending and explain any changes that may occur.

The bank for business

At HSBC, we support the British Banking Association's Statement of Principles and run our business accordingly.

Our aim is to continue to develop and deliver effective and sustainable banking services that will help our business customers realise their ambitions and grow their businesses both at home and internationally.

We are able to do this because we are among the most respected, highly capitalised and strongest banks in the world.
