Mastercard© to Visa Credit Card

Any standard Mastercard© Credit Card with an expiry date of March 2013 or later will be replaced as a Visa Credit Card, and will be sent to you approximately one month ahead of  your current Mastercard© expiring.

This change excludes:

  • Premier Mastercard©
  • Private Bank Mastercard©
  • Welsh Mastercard©
  • Gold Mastercard©

Why have we moved from Mastercard© to Visa?

We have taken the decision to issue a Visa card as our standard credit card.

Is there a difference between Mastercard© and Visa?

Holding a Visa Credit Card is just as beneficial to you. You will be able to enjoy all the usual benefits offered by the HSBC Credit Card, including acceptance in over 30 million locations worldwide and secure online shopping using Verified by Visa. You will notice your credit card number will change, however your interest rates and charges remain the same.

I have received a letter about my Mastercard© changing to a Visa Credit Card, I am not sure why?

We now issue Visa as our standard credit card. Shortly before the expiry of your current Mastercard©, you will receive a replacement Visa Credit Card. The letter you have received details the changes and the actions that you may need to take.

I do not want a Visa Credit Card. Can I keep my Mastercard© instead?

All Mastercard© standard credit cards will be transferred to Visa when they expire. You'll still be able to enjoy all the current benefits that the HSBC Credit Card offers, including worldwide acceptance, in over 30 million locations worldwide and secure online shopping using Verified by Visa.

When logged on to online banking the card number for my credit card is a different number from the card I have in my possession, why is this?

Your Mastercard© Credit Card is about to expire and is in the process of being transferred to a Visa Credit Card.  The details within online banking are those of your new Visa Credit Card, which you will receive shortly. In the meantime, you can continue to use the card in your possession as normal. More information can be found in the letter that has been sent to you detailing these changes.
