HSBC Online Banking activation

We're currently making improvements to our Online Banking service.

If you registered for Online Banking prior to the 17th December 2014 it's not possible for you to activate your existing Secure Key and you will need to re-start your registration.

If you registered for Online Banking after this date, you will be prompted to activate your Secure Key when you log on.

We apologise for any inconvenience which this delay may cause. Once you are registered, we look forward to introducing you to Online Banking, including the exciting enhancements we're working on now.

Activating your card is easy

When your new debit or credit card arrives, you'll need to activate it before you can use it. Take a look at our easy ways to activate your card.

Easy ways to activate your debit card

Sign the back of your debit card and choose one of these activation options:

  1. By Internet Banking
    Log-on to Internet Banking, click on 'Activate new card' and follow the instructions.
  2. By phone
    Call 0800 783 5263
  3. At a cash machine
    Just make a transaction (such as a cash withdrawal, balance enquiry or mobile top-up) and your new card will be automatically activated without any on-screen notification. Please note you can't choose this option if it's your first debit card from HSBC.

Please note, if you are a joint account holder and have more than one card on the account, you'll need to activate each card individually.

Easy ways to activate your credit card

As soon as you receive your new credit card, sign the back and choose one of two easy ways to activate it:

  1. By Internet Banking
    Log-on to Internet Banking, click on 'Activate new card' and follow the instructions.
  2. By phone
    Call 0800 3281 370 and speak to a member of our Customer Services team. Lines open 8am to 10pm every day.

Please note, if you have additional cardholders on your account then all cards will be activated at the same time.
