HSBC Premier: family and protection benefits | HSBC UK

HSBC Premier Family accounts

One of the most important life skills you can teach your children is an appreciation of the value of money. With our HSBC Premier family accounts, you can give your children the freedom to manage their own money - with your guidance

Our range of HSBC Premier family accounts encourage children to save from the age of 7 and offer them the experience of managing a current account from 11 years old. Your children can enjoy HSBC Premier benefits until they're 25. HSBC Premier family banking customers aged 11 and over are automatically sent an HSBC Premier Recognition Card, which provides recognition overseas and access to Global Safety Net.

To open a Premier family account with your child, just follow these easy steps:

  1. Download and help them fill in an application form and third party mandate.
  2. Complete an R85 form if applicable. This makes sure we'll pay tax-free interest on your child's Premier MySavings/Premier Family Savings Account.
  3. Take the application form and mandate (and optional R85 form) to your nearest HSBC branch along with some ID & proof of address (if you live with your child, we just need their ID).

Before you take your completed form into your nearest branch, take a look at the things you should know about the Premier Family accounts:

HSBC Premier Family mortgages

The HSBC Premier family mortgage benefit is a great new way to give your children a helping hand while letting them enjoy their independence.

As an HSBC Premier customer, you can already benefit from preferential mortgage rates and fees. And now your children could take advantage of these preferential mortgage rates and fees too.

Your home may be repossessed if you do not keep up repayments on your mortgage

This benefit is available to your children if they're

  • a first-time buyer
  • looking to remortgage when moving home
  • switching from an existing HSBC mortgage product to a different HSBC mortgage product, remortgaging from a first direct mortgage or remortgaging from a mortgage with another lender
  • applying for a joint mortgage

Please note that Buy to Let mortgages are excluded from this benefit.

Some things to consider:

  • applicants must be at least 18 years of age and no older than 60
  • parents must be an HSBC Premier customer at the time of application
  • parents must give us consent to disclose that they are an HSBC Premier customer to any children and any joint applicants wishing to take advantage of this benefit
  • all applications will be subject to normal assessment criteria.

Global safety net

Whether your children are going abroad to study or just for the experience of travelling, it's good to know they're not on their own. With HSBC Premier, your family also benefits from some of the features you enjoy.

If your children are planning to go to university abroad, for example, they can take advantage of the international account opening facility - available in more than 40 countries and territories worldwide - to have an account open and ready for them when they arrive. And if you have an HSBC Premier Credit Card and want to ensure that they're never left wanting for money and they're 18 years old or over, they can, subject to local terms and conditions, have an additional credit card.

We won't let them down in an emergency, either. They can take advantage of up to US$2,000 or currency equivalent emergency cash (with your permission), access the worldwide helpline (+1-908-PREMIER) and get a replacement credit card within 36 hours. Use your Worldwide Travel Insurance that offers protection for you and your family on trips (subject to the exclusions and limits of cover).
