Working together to help Haiti's survivors

A devastating 7.0 magnitude earthquake has hit Haiti, including the densely populated capital Port-Au-Prince and the surrounding area. Over 3 million people live in the most affected areas where thousands are feared dead, many more injured, many buried under rubble.

HSBC is donating £1 million to Haiti to provide aid for children orphaned by the earthquake

This aid will help provide:

  • temporary shelter for unaccompanied children in the two Villages
  • safe areas for mothers and children
  • food, medicine, clothing and shelter material
  • trauma support
  • reunification programmes

Around HSBC Group, we have been supporting relief efforts:

  • US has waived fees for transfers to Haiti
  • Mexico has opened an account with Save the Children, an NGO partner on the ground
  • Panama is collecting tetra pack milk, powdered milk and other supplies from employees, a donation that will be channelled through the office of the first lady
  • El Salvador and other countries will give donations to the local Red Cross

The Distasters Emergency Committee (DEC) launches and co-ordinates national fundraising appeals for public donations on behalf of its member agencies. It urgently needs your support to help the survivors.
