Apple Pay is a new way to pay in stores using your iPhone or Apple Watch*, and within some apps on your compatible iPhone or iPad. Simply add your HSBC Credit or Debit card to Wallet and you can transact using Apple Pay.
*when paired with iPhone 5 or later
Apple Pay is currently made available by Apple on the following devices, running iOS 8.3 or later:
In app and in store
iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus, iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, and iPhone SE;
In store
Apple Watch when paired with an iPhone 5 or later model;
In app
iPad Pro, iPad Air 2, iPad mini 4, and iPad mini 3.
The first card you add to Wallet is your default card. To change your default card go to Settings, select Wallet & Apple Pay and tap Default Card. Select your HSBC card to make it the default card for transactions.
You can also change a default card by selecting the card you would like to make the default, and dragging it to the front in Wallet. Tap "OK" when prompted.
Apple Pay can be used wherever you see the contactless payment symbol. It can be used for travel with TfL on buses and the London Underground. A £30 limit will apply to transactions in most cases; ask the retailer for further details.
You can also make in-app purchases on your compatible iPhone or iPad.
HSBC won't charge you for using Apple Pay, but charges from your mobile network provider may apply depending on your data plan.
If your iPhone, iPad or Apple Watch is lost or stolen, you can go to icloud.com/find or use the Find My iPhone app to suspend or permanently remove your HSBC card from that device. This will happen even if your device is offline and not connected to a mobile or Wi-Fi network.
Apple will also be able to remove your card(s) from a device.

Apple Pay is a secure way to make payments. With Apple Pay, instead of using your actual HSBC credit and debit card numbers when you add your card, a unique Device Account Number is assigned, encrypted, and securely stored in the Secure Element, a dedicated chip in iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch. When you make a purchase, the Device Account Number, along with a transaction-specific dynamic security code, is used to process your payment so your actual credit or debit card numbers are never shared by Apple with merchants or transmitted with payment.
To protect your card:
- you must not choose a device passcode that can be easily guessed by anyone else or tell anyone else what your device passcode is;
- and you must ensure that you do not store anyone else's fingerprint within your Apple Pay device.
For security purposes, we may ask you to enter a one-time passcode to confirm your identity. This code is a unique series of numbers and/or letters and will be sent via email or text. If prompted, please select how you wish to receive the one-time passcode and then enter it into the appropriate field.
