Eligibility requirements

HSBC Premier is available to you, as long as you pay your annual income into your HSBC Premier Bank Account and either:

  1. have savings or investments of at least £50,000 with HSBC in the UK; or
  2. have an individual annual income of at least £100,000 and one of the following products with HSBC in the UK:

- a mortgage;

- an investment, life insurance or protection product;

Or, qualify for HSBC Premier in another country.

Please note: HSBC in the UK excludes M&S Bank, first direct and HSBC Expat. For the second criteria, in the case of a joint account, at least one of the parties must have an individual annual income of at least £100,000. The investment, life insurance or protection products also includes those purchased through one of HSBC's advisers.

If you'd like to open an HSBC Premier Account please ensure you can answer YES to the following questions:

  • Are you aged 18 or over and under 69?
  • Are you happy for us to undertake a credit register search and credit scoring?
  • Can you provide us with identification and proof of your address and one month's bank statements from your current bank?

Travel insurance criteria

  • Are you under 70 years of age when your trip starts? Note: When you reach 70, you will no longer be covered by HSBC Premier Travel Insurance.
  • Have you been a resident of the UK, Channel Islands or the Isle of Man for at least six months at the time of opening your account or on the date your trip starts?
  • Are you registered with a doctor in the UK, the Channel Islands or the Isle of Man and liable to pay local taxes?
  • Are you going to start and finish your trip in the UK, the Channel Islands or the Isle of Man?
  • Are there any unmarried dependent children aged under 18 at the start of the trip or under 23 if they are in full-time education and live with you outside term time? (Children will only be covered when travelling with the account holder or their domestic partner, or whilst travelling abroad on their own to visit and stay with close relatives for the duration of the trip.)

You will need to call the HSBC Medical Assessment Helpline on 01243 218 426 to declare any pre-existing medical conditions suffered by you, or your domestic partner or any dependent children insured by the policy at the time of opening your HSBC Premier Bank Account and before booking your trip. You must also declare any medical conditions suffered by anyone whose health may cause you to cancel/affect your travel plans, such as a close relative or travelling companion.

Pre-existing medical conditions are not covered at any time under this policy unless they have been disclosed to and accepted by the HSBC Medical Assessment Team.

Things you should know

HSBC Premier is subject to status. We'll review your account on a regular basis and if you no longer meet the qualifying criteria, we'll transfer your account to Bank Account.

Account opening and credit is subject to status. All applicants are required to provide a passport or national ID card and proof of permanent residential address.

Please note, travel Insurance is only available if your main home is in the UK, the Channel Islands or the Isle of Man, you are registered with a local doctor and liable to pay local tax and you have been resident there for at least 6 months.
