Modern, up-to-date browser software helps protect you against online problems.

You use a web browser to look at websites. It's the doorway to the internet. Examples include Microsoft Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, Apple Safari or the software that is showing you this page now is your current web browser.

Just like any other software, it makes sense to use the latest, most secure web browser. The latest browsers have security features that block fake websites and protect against some viruses (but you still need anti-virus and Rapport for advanced protection).

If you have updated your computer regularly or bought it in the last couple of years, it is likely that you are already using an up-to-date browser such as Microsoft Internet Explorer 8 (on Windows PCs) or Safari 5 (on Macs). You can check by selecting 'About' on the browser menu. If this is not the case, you may want to get the new browser software immediately and update it regularly for maximum protection.

It automatically blocks, cleans and removes viruses from your PC and it monitors internet activity, looking for suspicious applications and data. It includes McAfee® SiteAdvisor™, which warns you about harmful websites.

McAfee® is a leading anti-virus company and you would pay up to £39.99 for a year's subscription in the shops, so this is a valuable offer. Once the free year is up, you will have to pay for future subscriptions or uninstall the software.

To Install McAfee® VirusScan Plus, log on to Internet Banking and click on the blue 'Free McAfee® security download' link at the bottom of the 'My accounts' page.
