Setting up a security number
Your security number is a 6-10 digit number chosen by you; it is just one of the ways we help to protect your account. The same security number is used for both online and telephone banking. If you don't already have a security number, it is easy to set one up:
- To set up your number call 08457 400 004
- To reset your number call 0845 600 2290
- Lines are open 8am to 10pm every day (except Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's Day). To help us continually improve our service and in the interests of security, we may monitor and/or record your telephone calls with us.
Please have the following information ready before you call:
- Your sort code
- Your account number or Credit Card number
- Your date of birth
Is your account eligible?
HSBC Bank accounts that are eligible for Internet Banking include: a UK mainland, Jersey, Guernsey or Isle of Man personal or sole trader current or savings account; a UK mainland credit card account; a UK mainland mortgage; or a UK mainland Stakeholder Pension with us.
Not all functionality is available on all eligible accounts.

** HSBC Priority payments are normally £25 per transfer when made in branch.
The same transaction when conducted via Personal Internet Banking will be £15.
