Alternatively, if you're moving to the UK and already bank with us:

- We can get your accounts up and running before you arrive
- An International Banking Centre will help set up your accounts
- We may be able to transfer your credit history to the UK

Five steps to opening an account abroad

Please note, a charge of £100 will apply. This is free for HSBC Premier customers and reduced to £50 for HSBC Advance customers, UK students and children under 18 years of age.

    Complete the online enquiry form and/or call the International Banking Centre on 0845 607 6706*

* Lines are open 8am to 8pm Monday to Friday and Saturday 10am to 3pm.

  • Wait for a call back
    We’ll call you within 24 hours to discuss your needs, send the relevant forms for you to fill out and a checklist of what documents you’ll need to bring to your local branch in step 3.

Set aside 10-15 minutes to complete the application form for your chosen country.

  • Get your documents ready
    You’ll need your passport and annual income information to hand

What you'll need to do

  1. Bring your required documentation (including the checklist sent to you in step 1)
  2. Sign your application form in branch

Please note, international account opening requirements vary from country to country and many require copies of your current formal identification documents. Our international specialists will advise you on what you’ll need to bring.

You can expect your new account to be opened within 5 working days of your chosen country* receiving your application and supporting documents.

You will receive your new debit cards and cheque book shortly after your account has been opened.

*Subject to qualification, status and local laws/regulations in your destination country.

Once you arrive abroad, you’ll receive a welcome call from your local branch. They’ll make sure you have everything you need and answer any questions you may have.
