I want to rent out my home

If you have a residential HSBC mortgage and need to temporarily rent out your property - you can apply for a Consent to let. This is a temporary agreement obtained from us to provide you with permission to rent your property out. It is a condition of your mortgage that you obtain HSBCs consent prior to renting your property out.

This is usually over a 12 month period and is used for short term/temporary changes in your circumstances without being required to transfer to a Buy to Let mortgage.

If you wish to rent your property out on a permanent basis you'll need to apply for a Buy to Let mortgage.

HSBC won't consider an application for consent to rent out your property until at least 6 months after drawdown of the mortgage except in exceptional circumstances, such as for Armed Forces personnel.

How to apply

  • Log onto Online Banking, and send us a request to rent out your property by sending us a secure e-message. All requests need to include the reason for and time period of the request. Requests cannot be made for a future date, and need to be made no more than 2 weeks before the desired start date. If HSBC agrees to you renting out your property, a letter consenting to the arrangement will be sent by post.
