Use your HSBC card with Apple Pay

Fast, easy and secure

Apple Pay changes how you pay with breakthrough contactless payment technology and unique security features. So you can pay in an easy, secure, and private way.

Most HSBC credit and debit cards are eligible for Apple Pay, subject to status (see FAQs below).

 

How to add a card

You can add up to 8 credit or debit cards. The same card can be added on up to 9 devices. The first card added to Apple Pay will be the default card. Payments will be from this card unless another card is selected. You can change your default card at any time by going into 'Settings', and then 'Wallet & Apple Pay'.

Apple Pay is available on iPhone 6 or later devices in stores, apps, and websites in Safari; with Apple Watch in stores and apps (requires iPhone 6 or later); with iPad Pro, iPad (5th generation), iPad Air 2, and iPad mini 3 and later in apps and websites in Safari; and with Mac (2012 or later) in Safari with an Apple Pay–enabled iPhone or Apple Watch. iPhone

Open the Wallet app, then tap the plus sign in the upper-right corner. From there, simply enter your card's security code to add your credit or debit card from your iTunes account or, select 'Add a different card' and use your iSight camera to enter the card information, or type it in manually.

Apple Watch*

Open the Apple Watch app on your iPhone and tap 'Wallet & Apple Pay'. Then select 'Add a new Credit or Debit Card'. From there simply enter your card's security code to add your credit or debit card from your iTunes account. To add a different card use your iSight camera to enter the card information, or type it in manually. 

*when paired with an iPhone 5 or later model.

iPad

Go into 'Settings', tap 'Wallet & Apple Pay', and tap 'Add Credit or Debit Card'. From there, simply enter your card's security code to add your credit or debit card from your iTunes account, or, select 'Add a different card' and use your iSight camera to enter the card information, or type it in manually.

How to pay

Payments will come from your default card, which can be changed at any time by going into 'Settings', and then 'Wallet & Apple Pay'.

You can now make secure Apple Pay purchases without the £30 limit in most locations where you see the contactless logo on payment terminals, ask the retailer for further details.

iPhone 8 or earlier

To pay in stores, there is no need to wake your iPhone or open an app. For iPhone 8 or earlier, just hold your iPhone near the contactless reader with your finger on Touch ID. You'll see 'Done' on the display, along with a subtle vibration and beep, letting you know your payment information was sent.*

iPhone X

To pay with Face ID, double-click the side button, then glance at iPhone X to authenticate with Face ID or enter your passcode. Hold your iPhone near the contactless reader until you see 'Done' on the display, along with a subtle vibration and beep, letting you know your payment information was sent.

Apple Watch

On Apple Watch, double-click the side button and hold the display of your Apple Watch up to the contactless reader. A gentle tap and beep confirms that your payment information was sent.*

Web in Safari

With your iPhone, iPad, and Mac, you can use Apple Pay to pay on the web in Safari.

In app

To pay within apps,* select Apple Pay as the payment method and place your finger on Touch ID.

With your iPhone or iPad:

  1. Tap the 'Buy with Apple Pay' or 'Apple Pay' button.
  2. Check your billing, shipping, and contact information to make sure that they're correct. If you want to pay with a different card, tap  next to your card.
  3. If you need to, enter your billing, shipping, and contact information. Apple Pay will store that information, so you won't need to enter it again.
  4. When you’re ready, make your purchase and confirm the payment.
  • iPhone X: Double-click the side button, then use Face ID or your passcode.
  • iPhone 8 or earlier or iPad: Use Touch ID or your passcode.
  • Apple Watch: Double-click the side button.

 

When your payment is successful, you’ll see 'Done' and a checkmark on the screen.
