How do you send money abroad?

The easiest way to send money abroad is through an international money transfer.

You can make a money transfer via online or mobile banking, or with a Global Money Account.

Charges for international payments may apply. Please check your account terms and conditions for more information.
Can I keep my UK bank account while living abroad?

You can keep your UK bank account if you move abroad. Make sure you use it from time to time to prevent it from becoming dormant. Some account features may not be available while you're living outside the UK.
How much money can I send abroad from the UK?

There aren’t any legal transfer limits in the UK, but your transfer provider may set a limit on how much you can send. These limits can be set daily, monthly, or yearly.

For most banks, international transfer limits are between £25,000 and £50,000.

With HSBC UK, you can transfer up to £50,000 online or through your mobile, and up to £10,000 (£10 million for Premier customers) if you transfer by phone.
Can I receive money from abroad in my bank account?

Yes, you can receive international payments.

To do this, you’ll need to give the sender your IBAN and BIC.

An international bank account is an account that helps you manage your finances across multiple countries or currencies. There are different accounts available that can be useful.

For example, some accounts let you hold, send and manage multiple currencies. These types of accounts often come with live exchange rates too. If this is a feature you need, you might be interested in are Global Money and the HSBC Currency Account.

Can I open a bank account abroad?

Yes, you can open a bank account abroad – these are sometimes called overseas accounts.

You might find it useful to open an overseas bank account if you’re moving or have financial needs in another country, or you may want to explore HSBC Expat.

If you’re a Premier customer, you’ll automatically qualify for Premier wherever you bank with us. You’ll also be able to manage your worldwide accounts on the go with our Global View service, and make free transfers between them with Global Transfers (also available to HSBC Advance account holders).
