Buildings only insurance
We'll cover whatever it costs to repair your home after loss or damage, subject to policy terms and conditions. Causes include: fire, explosions, storms, vandalism, vehicles, water escaping from pipes, theft and falling trees.

Unlimited buildings cover (We will cover the full cost of rebuilding up to the same specification as the original building, with no upper limit).
Water damage from a leaking pipe? We will find the source of the leak and make good any damage caused

What is not covered (Key exclusions)
A few important cover exclusions are:
- the excess(es) shown on your policy schedule
- damage by wet or dry rot arising from any cause
- building wear and tear
- damage that happens after the home has been left unoccupied for longer than the period shown on your schedule
- loss or damage caused by domestic animals

Contents only insurance
We will provide cover for loss of or damage to the contents in your home. Causes include: fire, explosions, smoke, heating fuel leaks and falling aerials.
Key features
Up to £50,000 for loss or damage to your belongings (or up to £80,000 on request)
Cover for your contents while temporarily removed from the home, including up to £5,000 for a member of your household who is away working or studying

What is not covered (Key exclusions)
A few important cover exclusions are:
- the excess(es) shown on your policy schedule
- contents wear and tear
- items used for business or professional purposes
- loss or damage caused by domestic animals
- pedal cycles, motorised vehicles, aircraft, boats, boards and other craft, and any parts, spares and accessories of these
- damage to any part of the structure of the home – e.g. ceilings, wallpaper etc.

New for old
When replacing an item you claim for, we do so on a like-for-like basis or replace it with the nearest equivalent available on the market. Please note: To reflect wear and tear we will reduce the amount we pay for clothes or household linen (e.g. bedding).

Optional extras
Home Emergency Cover
HSBC Home Emergency Cover provides you with expert help in the event on an emergency on your property. For a full list of events covered and associated exclusions please read the Home Emergency Cover section of the policy booklet.
What are the benefits?
Up to £1,000 for labour, parts and materials (including VAT) per incident
Hotel accommodation costs up to £1,000 if your home is uninhabitable. This is in addition to the labour, parts and materials claims limit of £1,000
No excess to pay
£500 boiler contribution for boilers declared beyond economical repair
What's covered?
Loss of essential services i.e. boiler breakdowns
Roof damage following a storm
Plumbing emergencies
Electrical emergency and breakdown
Lost keys or damage to locks, doors and windows
Pest infestation of rats, mice, wasps or hornets

What is not covered (Key exclusions)
A few important cover exclusions are:
- routine maintenance, cleaning and servicing of your property
- air conditioning equipment
- cosmetic damage to your property

Please note that Home Emergency cover isn't a service & maintenance product, nor does it cover repairs due to wear and tear (e.g. dripping taps). It doesn't cover breakdown of electric showers, nor domestic appliances like washing machines, or emergencies you were already aware of when you bought the cover.
Legal expenses
Legal Expenses cover provides you with a lawyer if you need one, and up to £50,000 of legal costs to pursue or defend a wide range of disputes including:
- personal injury
- employment
- property
- medical negligence
- consumer issues
A list of insured events and associated exclusions can be found in the Insured Events section of your policy booklet under the Legal Expenses cover section. Please ensure you read this to ensure this cover is suitable for your needs.
There is no excess to pay when making a claim on Legal Expenses cover.
What is not covered
A few key elements which you are not covered for are:
- disputing a disciplinary or grievance procedure at work
- any employer disputes which commenced within the first 30 days of holding this cover
- personal injury or death claims related to a motorised vehicle you are driving
- property disputes related to local or national planning policy or law
Should you need to make a claim and pursue a dispute for a case eligible for cover, the lawyer will assess your prospects of success. If in their opinion your case would not be successful in court, your expenses may not be covered any further – please ensure you read the Legal Expenses section of the policy booklet for further information.

Accidental damage - buildings
This covers you for sudden and unexpected damage. This includes breaking fixed glass such as a window or hitting a nail through a pipe when doing DIY.
What is not covered (Key exclusions)
Accidental Damage to Buildings does not cover:
- any excess(es) shown on your policy schedule
- damage caused by wear and tear, vermin, insects, fungus, the weather or gradual damage
- damage caused by water entering the home
- damage caused by building extensions, repairs or alterations, or any damage caused by subsidence, heave or landslip

Accidental damage - contents
This covers you for sudden and unexpected damage such as spilling wine on the sofa or knocking over your TV or home entertainment equipment.
What is not covered (Key exclusions)
Accidental Damage to contents does not cover:
- any excess(es) shown on your policy schedule
- damage caused by wear and tear, vermin, insects, fungus, the weather or gradual damage
- damage caused by water entering the home
- damage caused by domestic animals

Personal belongings
Protect your personal belongings, wherever you are in the world.
You can select between £2,000 and £10,000, with a single item limit of £1,500.
Your chosen limit will be shown in your policy schedule.
What is not covered (Key exclusions)
This optional extra does not cover:
- any excess(es) shown on your policy schedule
- theft from an unattended vehicle (unless covered as specified in the policy booklet)
- damage caused by wear and tear, vermin, insects, fungus, the weather or gradual damage
- business or professional use of musical instruments, photo and sporting equipment
- hearing aids
- pedal cycles

Pedal cycles
Protect your pedal cycles with worldwide cover. You can select up to £2,500 towards theft or damage. Your chosen limit will be shown in your policy schedule.
Specific exclusions and limitations apply to this cover – such as loss or damage while the pedal cycle is being used for racing or business purposes. Please ensure you read the policy booklet to verify this cover is suitable for you.
What is not covered (Key exclusions)
This optional extra does not cover:
- any excess(es) shown on your policy schedule
- any pedal cycles with a motor
- theft if the pedal cycle if left unattended or unsecured
- loss or damage to tyres or accessories unless the pedal cycle is stolen or damaged at the same time

Clerical business equipment
You can select up to £5,000 of cover if you work from home. This includes up to £500 of cover against loss, damage or theft of stock and samples used in connection with your employment when stored at your home. And up to £300 for money belonging to your business, and credit cards used for the purpose of your business. Your chosen limit will be shown in your policy schedule.
Specific exclusions and limitations apply to this cover – e.g. there is no cover for business money, personal money or business credit cards. Please ensure you read the policy booklet to verify this cover is suitable for you.
What is not covered (Key exclusions)
This optional extra does not cover:
- any excess(es) shown on your policy schedule
- damage excluded in the Contents section of your policy
- business credit cards, business or personal money
- certain types of business stock or trade samples e.g. furs, antiques or works of art
