Mobile banking is getting a new look

Say hello to simpler banking on the go

A fresh new look to your banking app

We’re always looking for ways to make your banking easier.

That’s why, in the next few weeks, we’ll start to upgrade all our customers to our new HSBC UK Mobile Banking app.

It’s the easy way to manage your finances quickly and securely, in a way to suit you.

What's changing?

A new look account page

Here you can see your up-to-date balances and latest transactions. We’ll now use your available balance as the main balance for your current account.

New products and services will be right next to your account list.

New profile view and simpler payments

We've added a new ‘Profile’ section, so you can manage your details and preferences from every tab.

We’ve also made it simpler to send money to payees here and outside the UK.

Get instant support

The updated 'Support' tab is full of helpful information. You can get in touch with any queries through our ‘Chat with us’ function.

How to update your app

To ensure you're on the latest version of the app, enable app updates in your App Store or Google Play settings.

To use our app you’ll need to have:

  • an iPhone or iPads running at least iOS 12.3
  • an Android device with an operating system of at least 7.0

From October 2022, your device will need to be running iOS 13 or Android 7.0 or higher to receive our latest app updates. You'll still be able to use our app on supported devices, but you won't be able to update the app or use our latest features.

Help and support

Make payments

We’ve made some changes to how you make payments to family and friends or companies. Over the next few weeks you may notice these changes.

If you can’t see these new changes, don’t worry – your mobile banking app will be upgraded shortly.

Here’s more on what’s changed.

We’ve pre-populated the bank account details for hundreds of major companies to help make it easier for you when you’re paying a credit card or utility bill.

Here’s how it works:

  1. Once logged on, select 'Pay & Transfer' and choose 'Make a payment or transfer'.
  2. Select the account you'd like to pay from, and then select 'My payees'.
  3. Select 'Add a new payee', go to 'Select a company' and then 'Next'.
  4. Search for a company and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the payment.

In most cases, sending money to companies is instant. However this can vary, so please make sure you check when reviewing your payment details for accurate timescales.

Top tip: if you're paying back your HSBC credit card manually every month, consider setting up a Direct Debit to make sure you don’t miss a payment. To find out more, check out our credit card repayments page.

Fraud advice: stop and check.

Scammers will pressurise you to make immediate payments. Please be sure this is a genuine request - if someone claiming to be from the police, a utility company or similar has asked you to do this, contact them on a trusted phone number or email address to check.

Remember, we'll never contact you to ask you to move your money to a “safe” account.

Next up, Biometrics

Using human features makes logging on more secure. This is known as biometrics - instead of needing to remember a password, you can use fingerprint or face recognition.

Here’s more on what’s changed.

To use Android Fingerprint you'll need:

  • the latest version of the HSBC UK Mobile Banking app
  • to have chosen a Digital Secure Key
  • to have a compatible phone and operating system

To enable Android Fingerprint, your phone must be running Android 8 or above and have fingerprint log on functionality.

How to enable Android Fingerprint in our app

  1. Make sure Android Fingerprint is already set up on your phone. You'll also need to have a passcode or screen lock.
  2. Log on to the HSBC UK Mobile Banking app and follow the instructions on the screen.
  3. You can also set up Android Fingerprint from 'Security' when logged on by clicking on the 'Profile' icon in top right corner of screen. If you reinstall our app, we’ll prompt you again to enable your biometric information next time you log on.
