Activate your debit card

When your new debit card arrives, you'll need to activate it before you can use it. Sign the back of your card and choose one of the following activation options:

To activate your contactless feature you’ll need to make a PIN transaction with the card first.

For your security, you will be prompted to enter your PIN from time to time to complete your purchase.

By phone

Activate your card in under 60 seconds by calling our automated line, available 24/7!

All you'll need is your card number and your date of birth.

Call 0800 783 5263.  

By online banking

  1. Select the ‘Log on to activate your card’ button
  2. Enter your logon details
  3. Follow the on-screen instructions

At a cash machine

Just make a transaction (such as a cash withdrawal, balance enquiry or mobile top-up) and your new card will be automatically activated without any on-screen notification.

You can't choose this option if it's your first debit card from HSBC.

Please note, if you are a joint account holder and have more than one card on the account, you'll need to activate each card individually.

Activate your credit card

When your new credit card arrives, you'll need to activate it before you can use it. When you receive your new card, sign the back and choose one of two easy ways to activate it:
