Please note that credit card customers will be charged a cash advance fee. Also, unlike with purchases, interest is charged on cash withdrawals with a credit card from the date when the transaction is applied to your account until the date payment is received. See more about credit card fees.

Please be aware that non-HSBC cash machines may charge you a transaction fee. This will be shown on screen when you make the withdrawal. Also, ATM withdrawal limits will apply.

Tell us you're travelling

We automatically monitor your accounts for unusual foreign transactions, so let us know before you travel abroad. It only takes a few minutes, and it reduces the chance of us declining your card transaction while you’re away:

  • Log-on to online banking and select 'Notify us of travel' under the 'My banking' section of the top menu
  • Call Customer Services on 03457 404 404

If you have a joint current account, both you and the other card holder will need to notify us when using the online banking option.

For credit cards, only the primary cardholder will need to notify us about any planned travel.

Non-sterling transactions

We've made some changes to how we present non-sterling transactions on statements. Find out more.

Contactless debit and credit card

Make low-value payments with just the tap of your card

You can use your Contactless debit and credit card to make payments up to £30 at any retailer that accepts Contactless. Just look for the logo Contactless Sign.

No need to carry cash around

Rather than search for loose change, simply tap your card at retailers to pay for coffee, newspapers, sandwiches and all manner of low-value items at participating retailers.

Find out more information on Contactless and where to use it.

Contactless with TFL

London's public transport network accepts contactless payment cards. This means you can use your contactless card to pay for single fare journeys.

For details about how it works, charges, fare capping and more, please visit www.tfl.gov.uk.
